So, after our Scottish adventure we moved on down to the coast to visit family and friends in Scarborough.

We stayed at a friend’s house that was next to a golf course and had a lovely mature garden.

I spent most of my birding hours sitting quietly observing the feeder in the garden and was well rewarded with many great garden birds that came to feed on the seeds and nuts.

First to appear and was with me throughout the stay was a lovely Coal Tit, he came every day and its feeding habits were so untidy he sprinkled seeds all over the ground which the Wood Pigeons, Rock Doves, Magpies and a great little bird called a Dunnock ( new name of the Hedge Sparrow) proceeded to feast on.

Always around were the Jackdaws, sometimes actually landing on the feeder and trying their luck that way, while a Collared Dove cooed away on the rooftop.

A great sighting was a Song Thrush calling sweetly in the nearby trees and a pair of Bullfinches feeding on the grasses nearby.

I had a far away sighting of a Goshawk flying high over the garden scattering the gulls as it went on its merry way.

Later that week the feeder was visited by both Blue and Great Tits along with a Chaffinch and Tree Sparrows, and of course no visit to an English country garden would be complete without a visit from a Robin!

A walk across the golf course one day only produced a Pheasent and some Rooks but did give us lovely sightings of Rabbits, Grey Squirrels and a lady Roe deer instead.
