The Malans at Grootvadersbosch

An elusive Narina Trogon sits quietly in the forest canopy.
Narina Trogon (Carin Malan)

Dawid and Carin Malan spent only one night at the Grootvadersbosh Nature Reserve returning from a tour in the Karoo. They are very positive about the accommodation (Glamping) that offers a play park for children and a beautiful new pool.

The hiking and mountain bike trails, as well as the two bird hides, are well maintained making for excellent forest birding fairly close to Cape Town and Hermanus. Some of the special species not usually found in many other areas in the Overberg included Olive Bushshrike, Tambourine Dove, Greater Double-collared Sunbird, Narina Trogon, Forest Canary and Grey Cuckooshrike.

This reserve is certainly worth a visit and for more than just one night.
