Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, 10 birders in 3 vehicles left the Onrus OK parking area at 7:30 am in high spirits, destination the “van der Stel pass”. The final bird species count of 82 was encouraging given the unfavorable birding conditions.

It was a cold and cloudy day as twelve birders left Onrus towards the van der Stel pass. Everyone agreed that it was a very pleasant outing with new friends made and old friendships rekindled. Despite the cold and cloudy start to the day, almost 60 bird species were identified with everyone looking forward to the next outing.

A small group met in rainy conditions ready for a morning of birding, which had already put off some of the potential participants. Nonetheless, our guide for the day was bullish that conditions would be better where we were heading and we were keen to head out.
