There can’t be too many places that have Namaqua Warbler as a garden bird. Botuin, in Vanrhynsdorp, is one of those places.
Graeme headed out to Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve. The day started with some slow, gravel-road birding. It was good from the outset. The downside of such amazing birding is that one gets to one’s destination late!
Rietvlei Nature Reserve, near Pretoria, has a good number of larger game including rhino and buffalo. But the grassland birding is also very good.
Graeme was recently in the Eastern Cape near the small village of Haga-Haga. There are many birds that are common to both the Overberg and the Eastern Cape. But a number of grassland and bushveld birds make a trip always worthwhile.
The northern hemisphere summer months are also a great time to be in Iceland for birding. In summer there are great numbers of migrants in the country to breed, some of these species are also seen in South African during our summer.
